ReStore

Could Rochester use a place where community members can…

  • Donate their used building supplies when remodeling, instead of adding to the growing burden of garbage and waste?
  • Purchase home improvement items at 50-90% off retail prices?
  • Help other families to have simple, decent, and affordable homes, just by shopping at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore?

…we think so too!

We invite you to join us in supporting the creation of a Habitat ReStore, a used building supply outlet in our community.

...so, how does a Habitat ReStore work?

It’s simple.  The next time you’re putting in new cabinets, replacing a window or door, or completing any other kind of home improvement project, you bring your usable, old items to the ReStore, instead of throwing them away.  Shoppers can then purchase these items for use in their own homes at a fraction of the retail costs.  Proceeds from the ReStore help to build Habitat for Humanity homes in our area.  Having a donated inventory enables profits to be earned quickly for the construction of more homes.  See below for a list of items.

To donate items:  Drop site on Tuesdays from 1 to 4 at Rochester Restaurant Supply, 3025 40th Ave NW, Rochester or call 507-696-1215 or email: tom@winonarestore.org to arrange a donation pickup.

…OK, I’m sold.  How can I help build the ReStore?

The Habitat ReStore will be a valuable, sustainable asset for our forward-thinking community for many years.  But, we need your help to make this dream a reality.

It will cost about $350,000 to acquire, furnish, staff, and operate a Habitat ReStore prior to becoming self-sustaining.  Please consider a capital campaign gift to the Habitat ReStore.

   Make a secure donation now.

A Habitat ReStore in Rochester will:

  • Keep hundreds of tons of materials out of the waste stream every year
  • Give working families a cost-effective way to purchase materials to improve their homes
  • Help Habitat to build more simple, decent, and affordable homes for families who can’t afford a home of their own

The ReStore can’t “launch” without your support.  Thank you for your generosity!

Additional information:

  • Feasibility research shows that a fully sized, functional store could net $100-$150K per year on $300K of gross sales
  • A copy of the full business plan is available on request
  • We are searching for a building of approximately 10,000 square feet for lease for the ReStore
  • This is a proven “franchise” business model; there currently are over 700 ReStores throughout the country and 9 in Minnesota.
  • Material donations from Rochester to the Winona ReStore have diverted over 333 tons of waste from the landfill
  • Rochester Area Habitat for Humanity is certified as “Meets all Standards” by the Minnesota Charities Review Council.
