Who We Are Rochester Area Habitat for Humanity (RAHH) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to build simple, decent, affordable housing for people in our community who are economically challenged. Funding for the agency comes primarily from local, individual, church, and business contributions, and through the United Way. In response to the critical need for affordable housing in this area, RAHH was established in 1990. As an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, RAHH subscribes to the philosophy and values of the international organization. All Habitat projects adhere to a nondiscriminatory family selection policy, where neither race nor religion determines who receives a Habitat home.
RAHH uses as much donated material and volunteer labor as possible. The homes we build are sold at no profit and at no interest to families who would otherwise not be able to afford to own a home. Habitat's Family Selection Committee, made up of volunteers, selects each homeowner based on the greatest need, their willingness to partner, and their ability to pay. Once a home is sold, the monthly payments made by the homeowners are "recycled" by Habitat to build additional houses. RAHH also works to build community through the home construction process. Each homeowner is required to put 200 hours of "sweat equity" into the construction of their home or other Habitat homes. They work side by side with volunteers from throughout the community. By bringing together diverse members of the community, the Habitat experience builds positive attitudes and increases understanding between individuals. By motivating people of conscience to positive action, RAHH provides basic housing to families and to the community. Since 1991, RAHH has housed
54 families. Eight of the homes were moved to their present
locations
and renovated, three were renovated in place, forty two were new
construction,
and one was sold back to RAHH,
refurbished and resold
to a second Habitat family. Fifty two of the homes are in
Rochester
and two are in Pine Island.

| RAHH
periodically accepts applications for families to become new
homeowners.
When we do this, families are asked to complete applications in order
to
be considered. In the past you had to come into our office
to get the application. But now you can print them out from this
website, fill it in (with help form an interpreter or IMAA if
necessary),
and then bring it to our office.
Click here to find a letter to the applicant, the Consent for Credit Check, and the Application. |
