What is YOUTH United?

Youth United (YU) is a Habitat for Humanity program that brings together community youth ages 5-25 to hrlp sponsor and build a home with a local family.  The youth are the leaders, planners, fundraisers, public relations specialists and builders. They work together to raise money and awareness, while youth ages 16-25 build the house (younger youth can work on site during the non-construction phases).  Most importantly, through this program youth help fulfill a family’s dream of having their own home. It is the adventure of a lifetime!

A YU house will cost approximately $140,000 to complete.  We built our first YU house in 2006; it was the first Youth United house built  in Minnesota!  Our 2nd house was finished in 2007.  Our 3rd house was finished in 2009, and our 4th house will start this summer, 2010.

How Can I get Involved?

Youth

• Leadership:  YU offers several ways that you can gain leadership skills.  The YU program is set up with a Steering Committee with a chair, co=chair, a secretary, and subcommittees that handle special projects.

• Groups:  Sign up your youth group or organization to help contribute funds and build the YU house.  Have a great time serving together and help a family's dream of home ownership come true.

Do you have experience with fundraising, construction, public relations, etc, or maybe you just want    to be a part of the great YU adventure?  We need  adults to be involved in all levels of the program as mentors.  So sign up for a committee or a special project or whatever looks interesting to you.
